Life Lessons from Colonel Sanders
Did you know that Colonel Sanders was turned down
1,009 times before anyone bought the rights to his KFC chicken recipe?
Harlan Sanders owned a restaurant/motel/service station business and at
the age 63 was offered nearly $200,000 for it. Deciding he was too young
to retire he turned down the offer. Two years later the state built a new
superhighway that bypassed his business and within a year he had to close
down.
Living off a benefit he went back to what he knew best - cooking chicken.
With just recipe and his car, he set off to sell his idea to the world,
often sleeping in his car because he couldn't afford to pay for
accommodation.
After 1,009 knock-backs, he found someone who believed in his recipe and
the first KFC restaurant was opened. There are now nearly 33,000 KFC
restaurants around the world.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the above article. Was the universe trying to spare the world from junk food or was he a desperate man determined to win against all odds because he didn't have too many other options? Either way, you've got to admire a person with that level of commitment and dogged determination. Puts our lives into perspective somewhat. How determined are you to achieve your goals? More importantly, what will you do when you achieve them?

Marlene Rattigan is an Early Childhood teacher, a teacher of English as a Second Language, and from 1987-2000 was a nationally accredited fitness leader. Her background is in music education. A keen interest in motor development in children led to the creation of Kidz-Fiz-Biz which she taught successfully for 13 years. Marlene also conducts workshops for children, teachers and parents at schools, in the community and at festivals. She has produced teaching manuals complete with audio CDs which are an extension of her ‘Kidz-Fiz-Biz’ program.
